Heaven Hell Week Day 2

The staff at the China World Hotel gym stopped asking if I was OK after dropping weights or watching my shaky handstands… In fact my crazed running from C2 rower to pullup bar to squat rack made them rediscover their own gym. Or so I’d like to believe.
Day 2 of Hell Week made me invent the word ‘progressive fatigue’. May not sound like much but it describes my state of mind and P.F. rhymes with B.S. which is how I start feeling about my programming this week.
Just realized that having ‘Josh’ after ‘Fran’ was a really bad idea. My shoulders and legs agree.

Day 2 WOD1
– Warmup (Burgener, double unders, free handstands, overhead squats)
Strength
– 10 Clean and Jerks – 95lbs
JOSH
– 21 Overhead Squats
– 42 Pullups
– 15 Overhead Squats
– 30 Pullups
– 9 Overhead squats
– 18 Pullups

TIME: 12:50 @ 65lbs

Day 2 WOD 2
– 2min max pushups – 60

“CROSSFIT BASELINE”
– 500m row
– 40 squats
– 30 situps
– 20 pushups
– 10 pullups
TIME: 4:45

In the evening I got to see Kevin Spacey play Richard III in the National Theater. Not much CrossFit there but was an amazing venue…

Heaven Hell Week Day 1

As I settled in for my double-WOD-a-day week I was pleased to find a C2 rower in the hotel gym. Noone else seemed to care except for another CrossFitter passing through from Florida.
The 8am and 8pm workout combo produced an awesome WOD set:

Warmup (Burgener, Handstand pushups, Double unders, overhead squats, chest to bar

WOD1
– Fran – 9:18 RX
– 10 free handstands
– 40 butterfly pullups
– 20 Overhead Squats – 45lbs
– 50 double unders

WOD2
– 100 burpees for time – 10:25
– 500m Row for time – 1:51
– 10 free handstands
– 50 double unders
– 40 butterfly pullups

Cash out in-between was my visit to the Temple of Heaven, the namesake for this week’s WOD theme.

CrossFit Beast Skills

As I’m working through my fair share of challenges with high rep muscle-ups, handstand pushups and handstands I stumbled upon a great site called Beast Skills. Many tutorials for the above and many other gymnastics movements with more pointers and advice than I can possibly process. Awesome site, Jim!

Paleo in China

Back home snacks are almost always some high carb, fat free processed food types with a shelf life of a decade. It is interesting to see in China almost the exact opposite. Many snacks are protein based, typically canned or dried fish, seafood or meat. Yes, chicken feet and insects are meat too, but I digress… It is easy to pick up a pack of dried protein like my favorite extra spicy dragonfish and we are back in paleo heaven… No bagels needed here.
