Bombay At Dusk

Traveling from Dubai to Mumbai and crossing continents, cultures and cuisines in the process… Today is Rest Day and some catching up with friends at the Four Seasons, probably the best view of this great ancient city…

Peddleboarding in the Persian Gulf

It turns out that the best way to warm up before work and have a cool breeze while working out is going on a peddle board in the Gulf. With moderate winds and an almost flat sea the conditions are outstanding for a morning endurance race… 2 hours of this fun gig makes you forget time and space for a while… In the evening I dropped in the local gym for “Angie” and annoyed the locals by not letting them cut in for the pull-up bar…

Endurance
2 hours of peddle boarding
Benchmark WOD “Angie”
For time:
– 100 pullups
– 100 pushups
– 100 situps
– 100 squats

Sandboarding and Camels in the Desert

Desert safaris are a necessary tourist trap in the Emirates and our guides made it very unique by adding fun activities like dune ATVs and sandboards to the mix. This made the beduin village dinner and show a lot more interesting. You also learn a lot about life balance when your bike gets stuck uphill on a tall sand dune or trying to hold steady on the back of a camel… Before all this fun we introduced Mr. Tabata to the good folks at the local gym in Al Barsha…

MetCon
5 rounds of Tabatas of 20 sec work and 10 sec rest
(Score is the sum of minimums completed for each Tabata round)
– pushups   [12]
– situps    [11]
– squats   [14]
– jumping jacks   [24]
– bench presses 75 lbs   [14]

A Taste of Dubai’s Miracle

Anyone touring Dubai will realize just how much a country with practically no oil or natural resources can accomplish in a mere 15 years. Talking to people who were here for that period, it certainly transformed their life and felt they were part of a city trying to make a dent in the Universe… A great tour of the city with dinner on Dubai Creek and most importantly surprisingly great skiing at Ski Dubai. I can now say that my first time for bobsledding was in the Emirates…

Strength
– Clean & Jerk 1-1-1-1-1  [170 lbs]

MetCon
AMRAP in 9 minutes:
– 5 pullups
– 10 pushups

Waterslides in the Arab Gulf

We just spent a day in the greek/arabic/mayan Atlantis resort complex that somehow can only exist in Dubai. The waterpark is at the edge of the the surreal Palm island. Also there is unlikely to find another global melting pot where the languages spoken span not countries but continents with Chinese, Arabic, French, Persian, Russian, English intermingling with voices only an experienced linguist could identify. And the water rapids and slides were really fun to ride. Little time left for an evening WOD before dinner and Mr. Tabata made it all worthwhile.

WOD
8 Tabata rounds of 20sec work / 10 sec rest of:
(Total is the 3 lowest scores in each of the 3 Tabatas)
–  Pushups
–  Bench dips
–  Situps
[SCORE: 48]
