I may or may not become a games athlete š but the value of CrossFit is evident in our kids. The best thing a parent can do is set an example and chart a course. Ever since I started the sport my girls adapted different aspects of it. The little one took to the CrossFit kids classes while the older one upgraded from her yoga practice to the occasional evening WOD in the basement. Since we teach kids by our behavior much more than our words, they started making better eating choices. Our teenager takes her own paleo food to school to skip the cafeteria junk. Her choice, not ours.
Making better health and fitness habits can and will change their life much more than team sports that instill frankly neither. They are essential for social development and teamwork but I’m convinced that school sports do very little for well-rounded fitness, i.e. increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains.
