Exceeding the President’s Fitness Test

Middle school and high school students as well as adults take the President’s Fitness Test every year, which for adults is basically some walking, a minute of half situps and a minute of almost pushups (no chest to floor).

On one hand I do believe having any fitness standard is great and the program encourages comparison of results over time. On the other hand, if we are serious about helping this country overcome its fitness challenge we should set higher targets than just walking and pretend gymnastics.

Many Crossfit affiliates and other sports like weightlifting, running and gymnastics developed great fitness standards over the years. The beginner or novice level of these standards could serve as a much better and serious guideline of what a fit nation should be like. Maybe people in public office should set an example by passing a higher bar. It would let them join the police, military and first responders who already do a better physical test.

This country has a major healthcare problem. Many believe that a big part of our healthcare issues could be eliminated by getting us all off the couch…
Let’s give ourselves some very specific targets to reach.
